For the City of Santa Monica in California, the following bid thresholds apply:
0 - $1000.00 - No Bids Required - any vendor is fine
$1001.00 - $25,000.00 - Informal Bid Process - 3 bids required whenever possible
$25,001.00 and above - Formal Sealed Bid Process - 3 bids required whenever possible

I'm aware of a previous survey on this topic, but the summary did not break
down by respondent so I'd like to take another crack at this. What is your
dollar threshold for obtaining multiple quotations from vendors (informal
bids) for procurement of materials, supplies, equipment and professional
services?
For those of you with higher limits greater than, say, $2,000, briefly
indicate how you justify a higher limit (versus $500).
Please provide responses by Wed, April 26 and I'll summarize for the group.
