Given an incredibly competitive market place for qualified (maybe even unqualified, for that matter) technology support staff, we are concerned about our ability to attract and retain IT staff. So, I would really appreciate your response by Monday, 6/26 by 10:00 am (when I have a meeting with our Human Resources Director on this subject) to the following quick questions: [Note: I'm really interested in your response to the first question even if you don't have a "yes" answer for the second one.] o Do your have similar concerns? o If so, are you doing anything clever (other than just increasing salary ranges) to address this concern? Some things we've heard about include signing bonuses, augmented training allowances and ongoing "special skills" bonuses for "impacted" positions like IT support. On the "softer" side, I'm not sure many public agencies have moved to spectacular parties, on-site saunas and massages, game rooms or free cokes yet for their IT staff (as discussed in a recent Time magazine article), but hey - if you're doing this, I'd be really interested in knowing about that, too! Thanx in advance, and as always, I'll be sharing the results of this survey with y'all. - Bill Bill Statler, Director of Finance City of San Luis Obispo 990 Palm Street San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 Phone: (805) 781-7125 Fax: (805) 781-7401 Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
