Do any of you that have TOT provide exemptions from the tax? If so, what are the exemptions and is there a state or federal code I can reference? Any information you can provide ASAP would be greatly appreciated. The City of Yuba City is currently dealing with a motel owner who isn't collecting tax on families paying with welfare vouchers to stay at his facility. He states that the welfare vouchers (provided by a Housing Assistance program through the county) are funded primarily by the state and federal government and thus should be exempt. The City doesn't share his view and would like to know if other cities have encountered this same issue.
