Title: RE: [CSMFO Members] Follow-on to Information Technology QuestionWe have no policy.
Employee owned devices-employee must get department head approval before
Info Svs installs the unit, Info Svs will not answer any questions on how
they work. Our concern is that the employee might cause problems with the connection to
Outlook - who will fix the problem? - a bridge yet to cross.ken [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Subject: [CSMFO Members] Follow-on to Information Technology Question
Good Morning Fellow CSMFOers!
As long as we're thinking about Gretchen's inquiry yesterday regarding IT,
do any of you have policies relating specifically to Personal Digital
Assistants?
With the explosion of the PDA market (and falling prices), we will all soon
be faced with decisions about supporting PDAs in the workplace. Have any of
you already addressed this issue and formed a formal or an informal policy
regarding purchase, standards, support, and use?!
You may reply directly to me, or to:
Britt Fussel, Public Works Director

Please respond by September 29 and I'll post results soon thereafter!
Long live Palm Pilots!

Title: RE: [CSMFO Members] Follow-on to Information Technology QuestionHi Robert,
If I neglected to include this in my excel spreadsheet, I messed up, because
I meant to include PDA's as part of the various computer hardware and
software items I'm looking for policies on. So, if you receive anything
directly, could you please forward it to me, and I'll do the same for you?
Also, does your city have any of the policies I'm looking for? I would
greatly appreciate anything you can provide either in hard copy, soft copy,
or both. Thanks much.

Title: PDA'sRobert,
Here in Camarillo we have an informal policy on PDA's.
Information Systems supports the Palm family of PDA's both on and off the
desktop. Department Heads/Directors make a case by case decision as to which
of their staff are allowed to purchase PDA's and those purchases are from
that departments budget. All purchases are made through Information Systems
and installed by my staff.
Thank you,
Richard Petropulos
City of Camarillo

Title: RE: [CSMFO Members] Follow-on to Information Technology QuestionSo. San Francisco department heads and assistant dept heads/division
managers have palm pilots if they want them. Our IT does not support them.
They actually require little support if you don't try to load them up with
unrelated software.-----Original Message-----
