Dear XSF members and beyond, as I wrote we respectively we as XMPP community or "XMPP project" were not elidgible to participate in the recent Outreachy program round.
Two weeks ago I spoke with Sage and Tilda from Outreachy. They explain the following points to me: - Every project, so every XMPP project needs to sign-up as community on their own. - That also means each project needs to acquire the $8,000 funding. There is no umbrella organsiation possible. - Outreachy suggest and looks for setups that serve a community in general. They recommend us to have a program around for example an XMPP library or, as how I see it, an XMPP server. Some points make it potentially difficult for the current nature of our community. But there are also other options that I believe we should review. First of all, Outreachy is not only about software development. It could also be non-technical community projects being financed and worked on. Then, it could also be protocol work we could propose for this. And that is another interesting thing. >From here I would like to invite you to come up with ideas. I would not worry >too much about the funding at this point. If we have some good ideas maybe >even beyond software development, we will find a way to finance it. I don't >think it needs to come from only one source. Some I ideas out of my mind: - XMPP Academy: Something like a learning program for newcomers. Could be educational. - Series of professional videos: Similar as the idea above - Improved press kit and promotion material - Protocol works: "Your ideas" :-) I am also very new to this, so please assume that my statements come with some uncertainty. I will do my best to move on. Looking forward to hear back from you and see if we find a way in. I think it has lots of potential. Have a nice 1st May, Eddie 21 feb 2024 21:17:55 E.M. <[email protected]>: > Hey all, > > Unfortunately, we are not able to participate the Outreachy program this year > as Umbrella organisations are not allowed and I was informed one day before > the deadline 😕 > > Sorry, my bad also.
