Yes the 280ZX struts are very short.
I just fitted a set to my 1600.
The struts I have are vented discs of about 10 1/2 inch diameter with
massive single piston callipers.
I grafted 1600 spring seats about 25mm lower on the strut, as the 280ZX
spring platforms are too wide. I used pedders gas inserts and standard
1600 springs, and narrowwed 280zx strut tops, ie: ground down diameter to
fit into strut tower of 1600.
The car is quite low and has excellent suspension travel.
It ended up being legal height, ie:600mm ground to centre of headlight.

I hope this helps you,
Graeme.
