I have found that a locked diff (or BOC Blue flame spool as we used
to call it)
felt much better than an LSD. It wasn't in a datsun, but a commodore (my
current
1600 has a locker, but I havn't driven it yet), and it handled like it was
on rails.
I had an LSD in it for a while, but I don't think it felt as good, then
again, I had the
locker in for about 3 years , and being a street driven car I was very used
to it
as i drove it every day.
The can be a pain in the butt on the street as it can feel jerky doing tight
(slow) corners
and u turns. The only real problem I ever had was snapping passenger side
axles which
didn't happen too often., But it made great every gear single wheel skids
after that.
We never heat treated the gears prior to welding. Just find someone who can
weld GOOD.
