 hi guy
I have just returned from a trip around the south island of NZ. 1068 miles in three days. OK I was not traveling all of the time , stopped for meals ,sight seeing, motel stays etc. But needless to say DATTIE performed faultlessly the whole trip. Mind you this is to be expected with a ground up rebuild being completed only 3000 miles ago. With reading all the posts for the past 6 mths , all the questions as to what is the right parts to use, what ratio diffs, which camshaft, which gearbox, tire size, suspension mods, carburation, brakes etc, I am very very pleased with what I have put together. I may mot have the fastest P510 by other peoples standards but in that 1068 miles I was never passed buy a single other vehicle and averaged 58.4 mph for the whole trip. My fuel consumption was 122.3 liters of fuel. Needless to say that at more than a couple of times the speedo was registering well above the 100 mph marker. The max. that I was able to pull out of DATTIE was 6720 rpm in top gear, boy that was a good rush, passing a NISSAN SKYLINE 2.5 GTS  on a rather long slightly down hill straight road in sth Otago. We managed to get a photo of the expression on the drivers face as we passed him. Chuckle. If it comes out it will be interesting. A lot of you guys talk about bump steer in your 510s, at 100mph I am able to let go of the steering wheel and the car will stay in a straight line , The longest measured distance buy the tripometer was 4 tenths of a mile before having to do a mild correction for road camber. Plenty of time to roll a durby! There were a lot of interesting episodes during the trip , the worst being at dusk on Mon. night overtaking in traffic on a two lane road , with what looked like an empty opp lane , plenty of moving space, nothing coming, to be well committed into the overtaking maneuver ,SHIT THAT DUMB  FU#@ GOT NO LIGHTS ON!!! Coming at me was a silver car , didn't see it till we were almost on top of it! Thank god for 4 wheel disc brakes, down gear , hit brakes, just squeezed in between the two cars I was passing. If I was in anything other than a 510 we would have been history. Anyway what a rush!
OK During this trip I took a couple of acceleration readings so that I could ask you guys what you think.
First the car!
1972 PH510 (right hand drive) 4 door (98000 miles old)

280ZX rear discs on slotted rear cross member
lowered 2" front & rear
25 mm longer bottom arms
12 mm shortened steering arms
P610 front sway bar
Gabriel Gas Shocks all 4
3.9 subaru diff
185 X 60 R 14  YOKOHAMA AVID Tires on 6" nissan 200sx alloys (30psi)
Short shaft dog leg 5 speed box (  x P610 SSS coupe) Std clutch & PP
L18 block ,.10 oversize std dished pistons ,
Lightened & balanced steel crankshaft,  lightened flywheel.
Chrome rings, new bearings & all gaskets
A87 peanut chamber head, surfaced, new guides & seats, Spray bar (L20E),
S53 cam - 234 duration - 0.482 lift, new chain  gears & guides.
38 mm dome top SU carbs ,match ported  manifold. Factory SSS air filter.
Std 4-2 SSS exhaust manifold , 1"5/8 from flange to gearbox mount (36") then 2"1/2 to rear of car via two full flow turbo flow mufflers.
Distributor is single point 510SSS  part no 22100-22006 set at 15o BTC initial 34o total advance. (Little cube of sponge rubber to stop points bounce)
Fire power coil . 8 mm carbon leads , NKG BP5ES spark plugs (matched to cylinders before assembly)
Engine haas done 3000 miles since assembly & is on new oil & filters.
We did a few timed acceleration bursts just for fun from 60 mph - 80 mph
5th gear 60 mph - 80 mph = 10.27 sec
4th gear 60 mph - 80 mph = 6.58 sec
3rd gear 60 mph - 80 mph = 7.45 sec
3rd to 4th gear  60 mph - 80 mph = 8.22 sec
Max. rev reading in top gear (5th) was 6720rpm.
These readings are by no means accurate just done for fun.
How about some of you 510 gurus giving me a idea of what my HP may be and or what could have been the speed at 6720 rpm, (flat out).
I have pics of my car but have not posted them to any sight as I am doing a web sight of my own when I get the time. After 25 yrs of having driven lots of performance cars, highly modified ones some of them, The 510 may not be the fastest nor the quickest around corners but it IS the BEST overall car for fun and getting those looks from other drivers ----what the #^^* was that!!!-----
