I rebuilt and fitted a Z18ET into my 1600 at Christmas. Pretty easy to to
but very time consuming. Engine and gearbox install is dead easy, swap
engine mounts from side to side and bolt up some grinding on the left one
to clear the turbo, do this while the engine is on the stand. Install
gearbox using shortened tailshaft ( I already had from my Z box) and 1600
mounts. I just had to elongate some holes. Sump mods:- weld in oil
return pipe, weld in new sump plug nut into lowest point, panel beat where
the sump hits the drag link ( I know, no-one ever tells you this stuff).
Install top radiator inlet at top right, block off old one with welch plug
and solder.
Fuel system:- install return line to tank or surge tank ( I ran 2 new
5/16" made from bundy tube, install surge tank, install pre pump, install
HP pump with pre filter, wire up pumps so they only run when cranking and
engine running.
Turbo:- depending on what you use, make oil supply line and return line
to sump, get water to and from the turbo, fabricate a dump pipe and get
and exaust system fitted.
Wiring:-install extra fuse panel, repair wiring loom and fit on engine,
drill hole in firewall for loom, install computer with appropriate power
etc, install knock controll module.
theres prolly more but I gotta go now. I have heaps of info and will help
in many ways. The short of it is, I bolted the engine in on a Sunday
night and Started the car on the following Sat. Thats 6 full 12hr days, on
my own.
