The case marking don't relate to what diff - well for the R160 & R180 that
is.
The easiest way to tell the difference between a R160 & R180 is to measure
the distance between the lower bolts on the end cover plate.
Simple rule and very easy to remember 60 mm is R160 and 80 mm is R180.
To check the ratio the only accurate way is to remove the end plate and to
read (or count the teeth) the ratio. It's stamped on the crown wheel like so
39:10. Divide the larger number by the smaller number; 3.9 in this example.
If you get something like 39:11 is not quite that obvious but the ratio in
this case is 3.54:1

okay this is a tad stupid but how do i tell the difference between diffs?
eg: they have markings and numbers on the casings right, but which
numbers/markings correspond to particular models?
for instance what does a "claimed 240k" diff have marked on its casing?
also!! Anyone know of any sites on the web detailing how to port a l20 head?
