I have found the trick is to get the gearbox aligned by using a jack under
it and checking all around the bell housing to ensure the engine is going on
square to the box. The engine usually slides right up to the bell housing
without too much effort when its aligned.
Bolt the engine to the gearbox and lower the lot to the engine mounts.
If the mounts dont easily line up could be that the gearbox cross member is
not at the right distance from the engine mounts. This is often the case
with a fabricated cross member under a longer gearbox. Try loosening the
gear box cross member bolts before trying to line up the engine mount bolts.
