Bosch make a 60 amp replacement BXD 1242 that can be fitted easily as it has an inbuit regulator.  Fitted one yesterday to a 1600.  Cost was $170 new.
The box says it also fits Astra/Pulsar as L series engines and it came with wiring instructions for all sorts of vehicles.

Subject: Alternator Help

Hi list,
Ive got a '75 120Y COUPE with a standard alternator, I think it puts out about 35 amp. My problem is that I want to put a set of 6inch 100watt driving lights on the front, also I have got a fairly powerful stereo, well for a 120Y, which has 2 250watt amps and when I have the heater on as well, the alternator can't produce enough power and the battery eventually dies.  What other more powerful alternators can replace what I have got? The motor is an A-12.

TIA.
Jess
