Rob,
For starters if you have a 1600 Sedan I would sack "your couple of bods" for
advise as a Silhouette has a live rear axle, at least they did the last time
I looked under one.
For a 1600 sedan the open diffs that are in the best condition at the
wreckers are off a Skyline C210 (78-80) R180 ratio 3.9:1 or a 3.7:1 off some
models in the 240K range. If you want a R160 you can get a 4.1:1 of a 200B
SSS 2 Door or depending on where you live a 1600 or 180B diff from
underneath someone's house, though most of these are well used items by now.

Subject: Diff Upgrade
Hi listers, I need some advice on a suitable diff for a 1600. I've been told
by a couple of bods to get my hands on a diff from a Skyline Silhouette.
Used to own a Skyline, never had any probs with the diff apart from whining
at 80kph plus.
The 1600 at this stage has a mildly worked z18 in it with a Celica 5 speed,
long term plans are to fit an SR20. Is the Silhouette diff the right option
or should I be looking at another????
The stock diff is RS.
All advice welcome.
Regards,
Rob M.
