You should also be able to check that the timing mark on the crank pulley is
lined up with the "0" on the timing mark plate. Also, to be triple sure, you
gotta check with the rocker cover off that the valves of cylinder 1 are both
closed otherwise you might find TDC on piston 3 instead of 1 & then you will
have the timing out by 180 degrees. That'll be a bugger to get started won't
it?!?

thanks errol, but is this accurate enough?  What if the shaft is put in one
tooth too far in either direction....is it the end of the world as we know
it?  Will the TDC monster be after my ass, or doesn't it matter too much.  I
guess I should be able to get it accurate with this method though hey.
