Listers, Just a note for listers with SR20's. I dont know if this has been talked about before but here goes! I picked up a rebuilder S14 SR20DET (X 200 SX) yesterday that has had the lack of camshaft lube blues (most likely from use of incorrect grade oil!). The camshaft lobes have worn 4 - 5 mm ($500 for exhaust cam & $600 for inlet cam) and the rocker arms ($65 each x 8) are knackered on the cam rubbing pads. Each rocker has a rocker guide ($9 each x 8) on one finger and a lash adjuster ($23 each x 8) on the other finger are all worn. About $2500 - $3000 damage at a guess! and avoidable Apparently cam and rocker wear is a major problem with the SR as people put in 20W 50 natural oil into an engine designed to run on 5W30 synthetic. Replacement cams are in very short supply from Nissan at the moment (nil stock) suggesting this is a common problem. This is born out by Wade camshafts who have a nice little earner rebuilding worn SR20 cams. The problem with use of thicker grade oil, is that the clearances on these engines are so tight, that thinner grades of oil are needed to pass the volumes required for cooling and lubrication. If you use a thicker oil, the cam spray bar cannot spray the oil onto the lobes & on the rubbing pad, (the oil oozes out of the fine holes not reaching the lobes). With the thinner oils the polymer chains tend to break down earlier and so the replacement at 5,000 km intervals with filter each 10,000 km. Woo hoo... -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of uniken Sent: Monday, July 10, 2000 1:55 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: SR20DET Hi everyone, Thanks for all the pointers everyone, I bought an SR20DET with g/box, computer and air flow meter from National Truck Spares on Saturday (Thanks Geordie!). It was $2000, more because it was the black rocker cover version (late model S13). The guy said they get two containers per week in from Japan, mostly truck stuff. This is the cheapest place in Sydney I found for an SR20DET. Ichiban said they had one for $2100, no computer. Adelaide Jap the same package I bought for $5500 + freight! For everyone looking for SR20 manuals, go to: www.driveway.com login: s14manual2 password: letmein you can download the S14 Silvia Nissan manual in its entirety. Plenty of juicy SR20DET info in there.
