You may already be aware (in which case don't bother reading on) that this
info can be roughly calculated using very elementary kinematics formulae.
Because kinetic energy = 1/2 x (mass) x (velocity squared), and power =
energy / time, you can calculate the car's power output over the quarter mile.
First calculate kinetic energy using the above formula (mass must be in
kilograms and velocity in metres/second at the end of the 1/4). This gives
you the car's kinetic energy at the end of the quarter mile.
Then just divide this value for energy by the quarter mile time (in
seconds) and you will have the power output in watts. Divide by 1000 to
get kW and multiply kW by about 1.6 (I think) to get hp.
