havn't read the cooling article yet but as it happens I have just blown the 
water pump in the 1600. Engine is still warm so while its cooling thought I 
would ask the experts. Is there anything to watch while doing the gasket? 
for cause it looks very straight forward. How well do the l16 heads hold up 
to heat. It went 40kms from home. The temp gauge(tested) never got to 
operating. What possible damage could I have done remembering that my engine 
has never been touched in 28yrs and only done 5000kms?
