Brad
I'm talking 20 or so years ago here...
The major problem we used to have was that we were running piston to bore tolerances of about .001"  or less, which is pretty tight.  The wiseco's used to develop high spots unexpectedly which would cause the engine to 'nip' up on closed throttle..Remember we are talking two stroke motorcycles here.. I tended to stick with the OE japanese items as a safeguard cos when the engine 'nips' up on a bike u end up doing a close examination of the bitumen..
I guess old prejudices die hard.. I have no doubt that technologies have improved dramatically in that time and if they were a cost effective solution I would be interested in using them in my L series..
Do you have any idea what they are worth? and where u would get them?
cheers
Mick

What was it about them that makes you say they werent that good. I am not pro-Wiseco at all, I m just interested to hear your experience.  The only forged slugs I  have used are Cosworth, but I now have a mortgage wich won't let me buy such extravagant gear

I used to use Wiseco in racing motorbike engines years ago and i gotta say that they really were not that good - the major advantage being that they used really thin (1mm) rings so they let the two stroke motors rev really well...
Are they any good?
What sort of price can u expect to pay?
Availability?
Source?
cheers

Bad news VW piston freaks

Paul from Harding European rang me this morning, he has tried extensively to source 88mm Mahle pistons in Aus and the US with no luck, the general answer being 'they were all used by Datsun racers'.

He has a set of 87mm on his catalog and is trying to source them, however don't hold your breath as he is not confident.

WISECO here we come......

Regards
Brad
