He's right, there are two types of SU's.  Original Skinner Union built ones
have the bell shaped (rounded) tops.  Hitachi copies (built under licence)
have cylinder shaped tops.  The Hitachis are just as good, but came when
anti pollution was becoming a requirement, so most Hitachis are tuned for
and fitted with a lot of AP gear.

Side draught Webers are better as they enable more fuel to be used (more
power) but are costly to initially set up.  SU's are easy to set up and
tune.  SU's also are more pleasant to drive in traffic as they are quieter
and work better at lower revs.
