ahhhh actually I believe he recently put some new big super duper intake air pod on it
as for the SR20 idea he was about to sell the car in the next week or two because he couldn't afford the payments so I don't think that's a realistic option unfortunately :(
although that was his original plan

Subject: Re: engine go bang bang

Dave,

I have heard of a number of these, particularly ones with modified intakes and air pods, picking up water off the road leading to destruction. Nissan are aware of the risks and are tight with this under engine warranty.

A mate of mine did have this happen, was not covered and the cheaper option was an import motor.

Being all electronic, the engine damage may have affected the dash, can't confirm this though, just an opinion.

Might be a better option to put a GTir SR20det into it =)

Jon.

Subject: engine go bang bang

just a quick question not datto related but it's a nissan so I thought someone may know

my mate has an 1999 N15 Pulsar and has asked me to go to his place tomorrow afternoon and take a look at it for him.
just thought I'd check with the people in the know and see if they have any ideas as to what I should be searching for.

I only ask because the description he gave me on the phone sounds like 4 problems all in one all happened at the same time so I thought I'd get some opinions

This is the way he explained it to me.......

"I was driving down the freeway at around 95-100 km/h when I heard a fairly loud BANG.  At the same time every light in the dashboard came on and went off then the engine just cut out.  I rolled over to the side of the freeway and got out and popped the bonnet, only to discover my engine was a raging inferno.  Someone driving past pulled over and had a fire extinguisher in their car and helped me put it out.  I got the car towed home.  I can crank it over but there is a very loud clunking noise."

It's got me confused, the dash board sounds like a wiring problem.  At first I thought the bang and the fire were related, but once he told me about the clunking noise I figure the bang was something letting go internally. The clunking he described definately sounds bottom end, perhaps whatever it was that made the bang has found it's way into the crankcase?  Then there's the fire, my guess a fuel leak somewhere, possibly ignited by a short which would have also explained the dash, well at least I'd like to think it's that, because if it was simply ignited by the engine heat then that again leaves me pondering the dash lights.  Now I'm left trying to work out why the hell this all happened at once.

Any thoughts would be greatly appretiated.

Thanks guys'n'gals
Dave
