a friend of mine has an A14 with twin
sidedraft webbers (unsure of size), ported head with match ported manifold
and a mild cam.
he wants to put it into a 120Y sedan he just
bought but wanted to ask a few things first
1. Will the A14 bolt up to the gearbox in
the 120Y? If yes will the gearbox be strong enough?
Yes it will bolt straight up.
The 4 speed will hold for a while but it will break if you drop the clutch
every second corner. Been there done that.
2. Do the engine mounts needed to be
modified at all?
NO.
But have never fitted an A14 to a 120y. But i know that the mounts are
almost straight up from the Xmember. Therefore the A14/15 should bolt
in.
3. Are there any pitfalls to watch out for
when putting an A14 in a 120Y? (Anyone on the list ever done it
before?)
Dunno.
But im sure all wiring will be in in the right place. The altinator in
the 120y A12's was on the left anyway. So that should connect up no
probs.
4. Are there any special things he has to do
for it to pass for roadworthy with the A14? And if so will he need
engineer's reports?
NO. The A14
can be put into a 120y without any engineer reports cause the engine is not
more than 15% larger. Well "legally" max is 1380cc but A14
will be no prob im sure. Just a blue slip which will change the engine
number.

helps. I've only owned 1 120y which was a bog stock granny car
and never had any big plans for it. But from what i gathered, the
A14/15 swap looked very easy and straight forward with no major
work.
