A mate of mine just gave me a call regarding his l20b bluebird (stock
std). Apparently it wont idle and cuts out when you lift off (if you use
the clutch as you lift off) and it is running rather rich. Normally he
doesn't engage the auto choke as it was always been a bit finicky but he
did yesterday and now he is having these problems. He can keep it
running if he keeps his foot on the accelerator but otherwise it cuts
out. The other fact that confuses me a little is that it starts having
these problems almost immediately after startup. Apparently when the
choke used to stick on it would simply idle fast, stutter on
acceleration and run rich rather than cut out. To solve earlier hassles
with the choke it was supposed to have been set up to never engage.
Are these chokes renowned for sticking? Am I targeting the most likely
source of his problem? Anyone with a quick fix to get him going until
the weekend?
Thanks
Luke Clough
