Ive had to do the same thing to mine. I used a wire brush to take off the
surface rust and to clean it up, then put some rust converter on top. I
think the trick then is to coat it with either that thick black shit (sorry
cant remember what its called , its like a tar paint) or to use a
galavanised paint which will never rust. It pays i guess to do the whole
floor at the same time.
