Davo,
Commodore struts? Now there's a novel idea, what model Commy?. The rest of
the combination was very popular quite a few years back but with 74mm axled
180B struts - SSS used to flog these with either Toy, Std Commy VL or VL
Turbo (with Ford piston) callipers. I looked at that setup to buy at the
time I bought the FJTurbo from them but I thought it was so over priced. It
was quite a few years before I discovered our beloved Datto haven ie Ozdat
to enlighten me of easier and cheaper options.
The rally 1600 that I had at the time also had an 80's odd ball 4 disc
setup. 240K struts, Holden HQ discs, Volvo 4 spots and on the rear were
Volvo 144 units. Paddy mentioned Volvo 4 spots, these are very interesting
as in a Volvo they are designed to have 2 spot braking on 2 separate (2 x 2
spot circuits) so for a 1600 with a single hydraulic feed to the wheel you
would have to fabricate a hydraulic line from the bleeder on the first
circuit to the input on the 2nd circuit and then you can bleed the lot
through one bleeder. They were designed to give the utmost safety as far as
front braking was concerned. The rears are 2 spots but only have a
conventional single circuit.

Thanx Terry,
I had a look thru the online catalog and found some possible disc's for the
stanza strut i have. I am still not 100% sure whether they will fit but
have sent an e-mail to DBA asking about it. They are Nissan Nomad, Gazelle
and Vanette 10" vented disc's. It will be interesting to see what they have
to say.
I also had a chat to my boss today about his 1600 rally cars. He was
actually pulling the front brakes apart today so i had quite a good look at
what he has done. He uses commodore struts, Audi 10" vented disc's and twin
spot Hilux calipers. It looks like a good setup. Has anyone heard of this
setup before????
