Michael,

Do'h, I just realised the subject and I've been pratting on about a H1 mod,
but I'd still recommend you wire in the second relay. I've never had much
trouble with 510 headlight relays other than crook connections in the later
model plug in to the base of the relay type but the first time I fitted 100w
a/c landers in the inners on my brand new '72 GL the switch lasted the first
country trip and then it melted so I only had low beam until I could get
another switch, better than nothing I spose. That's when I learnt about hot
wired lighting on a 510, like I wired in a second relay for the inners the
same way as I'd done on my 1200 and of course it didn't work.

I've found that you can run 55/100w outer beams in the 510 but only if you
wire in the second relay as per the instructions as even a pair of 50w
sealed beam inners in conjunction with the high output outers will still fry
the switch. With the 30amp Bosch second relay in you can run 55/100w outers
and up to 130w inners with no dramas except for dickheads who flash you
coming the other way when you return the favour. You may have to upgrade the
big white wire from your alternator to starter motor solenoid as this
original wire is rated at 35amp continuous. You only have to add a second
wire that's rates at 35-40amp to get the best results, also I wouldn't run
4x100 high beam with less than a 60amp alternator.

regards
Terry

Thanx again terry, One question tho what is the max current you think the
original relay can handle? I'm only runnin 55wx100 so i was thinking of
runnin
the lowbeams with the stock setup and using a relay for the high beams
only...

thanx

Michael
