instead of storing the below the crankcase in a normal style sump, the oil
is stored in a reservoir or tank, usually in the boot. An auxiliary pump run
off the crankshaft pumps the oil from the reservoir to the engine and back
again. It effectively eliminates oil surge, can also run a larger quantity
of oil to keep it cooler. Also can eliminate windage problems in some
instances.
