Ryan,
Most corporate sites block the port (don't know number) traffic going
through the firewall, ICQ is blocked at our place as most of these programs
are hackers heaven. One thing you could check though, most modern day
software authors know this so they try to use the http proxy port 80 or 8080
but sometimes the software can't automatically figure out the settings that
your browse uses. Back at the office the IT admin worked this out and they
have started using proxy.pac files so they can control the port settings and
use windows policies to update the registry at logon just in case you've
been fiddling and so the game goes on.
Check to see if there is an "options or connections" screen that have
somewhere to enter proxy details much like winamp or real player if you've
used any of these at work. I haven't downloaded the mIRC software to see
what it's about but most of these all work the same.
