Easy Work Dave No real equations
for calculating what fits, only for CR etc Basically
you start with the block deck ht from center crank to block deck. This gives you the maximum distance
that can be taken up by the crank on half stroke, conrod and piston compression
height. Simply by juggling crank
stroke, rod length and compression hts various combos can be designed. Other factors to take into account
though are Stroke:rod ratio, counterweight size, piston skirt size and so on. For
example, my L18 that I am building has the crank stroked from 78mm to 82mm,
using L16 rods and custom compression ht flat top forged pistons. I wanted the slight stroker as my aim
was for 1995cc swept volume with an 88mm bore. With this combination I have a good stroke to rod ratio
which assists revs and reduces piston scuffing, I have maintained cylinder wall
strength reducing the possibility of cracking thru wall flex, and generally
have a balanced size increase throughout.
This is capable of being calculated for any combination, even the
Frankenstein 2.6 litre L20B’s (yuk) Regards Brad -----Original
Message----- I've noticed
a few of you working out custom engine capacities by mixing and matching
different cranks and rods (eg. L16 crank with L18 rods etc etc) I was just
wondering if there is an equation to work it out? if so I don't suppose anyone
could enlighten me could they?
