Richard,
I have seen a lot of sins committed in the name of Nissan engine builders
and have pulled down some shockers that cost a small fortune.
There is also a difference between domestic engine builders who are able to
build a good stock engine and those who are able to make an engine sing!
There are also some builders with a very high level of technical skills but
whose engines are unobtainium due to their commitments with race teams etc.
A good engine builder is a special person who is able to analyse the
customers ambitions and needs providing them with a match for desires and
needs. So a good engine builder also has to be a good listener, analyst &
psychiatrist as well as being able to build a reliable powerful engine.

In Melbourne:-
Les Collins (Most definitely an excellent engine builder. As for his
pricing, well I think you get what you pay for! I would rather pay once and
pay more, than having to have an engine built twice!)
Steve Newing @ Speed Technology (Has excellent technical skills and is
also very capable engine builder. He also is in regular contact with Les
Collins.)
Allan Pitt (Also technically excellent but doesn't have much spare time for
engine building due to race team commitments)
John Boshua ( Doesn't build to many these days, but builds excellent
quality engines.)
In Adelaide
Peter Hall (His engines win regularly so he must be doing something right!
I am not sure about his prices.)

In Tasmania
Bolt Vandenburg (Builds good reliable high horsepower engines!

All the above are excellent at L series engine.
>From my own experience Les Collins and Steve Newing are also excellent with
all Nissan engines.
There are others but they are usually available only for mates etc or one
offs as they are working for race teams etc. Eg Garry Pegorarro! (The
Wizard!).

Anyway, thats my thoughts, Hope I haven't bored you,
Cheers
Feral Errol

Errol,
Prior to you joining our list I think, we had some discussions about
Melbourne's professional Datsun engine builders.

With your knowledge who do you think turns out a good race, rally, or
"road" performance engines?

To get the discussion going, I feel that Les Collins (original owner of
Datrally) still puts together mean L series engines (at a ridiculous price
however). Your comments?
What are other customers experiences?
