Davo, Your mate and Errol are both correct. The stated specs are seamless steel pipe of aminimum diamter and wall thickness for the main hoop and a different thickness/diameter for the front and rear legs. A diagonal is also required and must be welded in. The CAMS reg (Appendix J) is a straight copy of the FIA reg. Basically, other materials can be used provided has the same or better strength than the steel setup as provided. The issues is, that if you use other materials, you have to rpove that it is better than the steel setup. ie a cage has to be made and subjected to the various tests before it will be passed. The other thing is that for certain classes of racing the cage hoops and legs must be fully welded but can be bolted or welded to the floor. The use of bolt togther cages or "T-clamps" are not currently valid for racing. This is currently under review and is expected to be approived for 2001 in the next couple of weeks. The FIA technical committee has just approved them and is awaiting final ratification by the FIA Board on October 2nd. All the details are on the following website http://www.fia.com/homepage/selection-a.html Goto Technical and Sporting Regulations Then Appendix J to the International Sporting Code Then Article 253 - Safety Equipment Then Section 8 - Rollover Structures I am currently awaiting approval for my rally car so I have researched the issue thoroughly. The Bond Roll Cage cost $800 versus $2000 for a fully welded type. If you want anymore info, then give us a yell.
