Arty,
Noises are a hard one, everyone's idea of how to describe them is
different - however I'd be looking at either the timing chain and tensioner
if it's at the top front of the engine, or if it a deeper sounding banging
noise and only audible under load it's likely to be a big end bearing -
either way you're in trouble and going to get your hands dirty. For a noise
to only be heard above 3k and not below is unusual, it sort of suggests that
the timing chain tensioner or may be even the oil pump is dropping pressure.
Have you changed the oil filter recently, vary rare these days but the
pressure relief valve can fail in them.

Subject: L20b probs (goddamn!)
hello all, just wondering if anyone could guess/suggest what would be wrong
with my L20b? it seems under any load say, around 3k,( continues until
around 5k) it rattles like hell! from what i reckon is top end... Anywayz
same thing happens on startup till the oil gets flowing anyway. Well
whatever it is, i've been told its probably a piston, what do you all think?
extremely vague i know, sorry but hey thats about all i can say to explain
it!
well, thanks in advance! Oh by the way! Anyone got a stanza 5 speed 4 sale?
preferably cheaper than the $400 i've been quoted!:|!
A.p.
