You can still get them from mail order performance shops that advertise in Parts Peddler.

I can't wait for him to ring me tomorrow, when we tested it they just kept going and going as long as it was in reverse.  Should be a cracker!!!

Top idea with the buzzer.  Better idea is not letting anyone drive your Datto!

Very ironic that you posted this:

A mate of mine came over today and asked if I could disconnect his 'La Cucaracha' horns as he has a new girlfriend who is very classy apparently, and he doesn't want to accidentally tap the horn (as he does frequently) and look like an idiot.

Fortunately after he left his Zed here some of my rally mates came over and we had a brainstorm.  The Lacucaracha horns are now operated by the reverse switch unknown to him hehehehehe.  I parked it in my front yard so he drives straight out, and where he lives he has to park on the road.

Wish I was at the restaurant tonight watching him back out of the undercover carpark!!!

Lacucaracha Lacucaracha, la de da de da de da........ How romantic

Mel,

Great news that you're on the road. The dogleg gearbox is great when you get used to it. A neat trick for the reverse gear is to fit a small buzzer on the reversing light circuit, I did mine mainly to stop dyno and tyre mechanics from running over their co-workers with my Datto.

The backfiring with twin carbies is caused by timing retarded, worn throttle shafts, air is getting past the throttle shafts or leaking inlet manifold gasket and leaning the mixture - either way that condition needs fixing pretty soon as damage can result. When the points are replaced the timing needs to be set at 14-16 degrees BTDC. I'd get that done first and see what happens.

regards
Terry

Finally Folks

my baby is out and about legally!! Drove to get a Roadworthy and Rego today passing numerous police and not getting pulled over!

I got the road worthy done and as i was pulling out from the mechanics the car died. I was sitting there in his driveway AFTER HE"D SAID IT WAS ROADWORTHY trying to get it to start. no go. In the end he had a look at it and the points in the distributor needed replacing. Pretty embarassing.

I'm having difficulties trying to get the hang of this stupid Stanza box. I have put it ino reverse a few times at lights. I can imagine how scared the people behind are to see my car coming straight back towards them.

Anyway
Happy to be on the road and no doubt you'll be hearing from me as shit falls off it and parts blow up.

Mel

P.S. Is it a problem to have it backfiring through the carby (Twin SU"s)
