Chris,
A front cut forward of the firewall would be a piece of cake.  Remove the
front guards, mark the inner guards at the cut line and cut with a cutoff
wheel. Try to get the cut as far forward as possible, preferably forward of
the strut mounts if possible, so you havent got  suspension forces acting
through the welded repair (see below).  Repeat for the donor front and join.
Make sure you allow the 3/4 mm for the cutoff wheel.  The guards and the
bonnet are a bit forgiving for fit if you happen to get it 1 or 2 mm out for
total length of the inner guards.

Joining structural panels these days usually requires over lap joints rather
than butt joints.  It certainly does for a "cut and shut" job through the
floor pan and sills.  One of our professional panel beaters should be best
to advise you on this.
