Richard,
The spare wire near the passenger headlights on some Australian Production 1600's is for the engine compartment lamp. In Australia this lamp only works with the parking lights on whilst the Japanese SSS and Wagons the lamp is on the Common circuit (courtesy lights etc) and works when there is battery power.

Any idea why I'd have an RBL (red/blue tracer) right under the passenger side headlight? I looked in the gregorys manual and it reakons its for the clock and interior light. Should this be plugged in somewhere?

I disconnected the inners and the fuse doesn't blow. I've got a fair bit of battery acid floating round which is probably the problem.
