$1000 isn't much to build a good engine so here's something my mate did a
while ago. Not saying take this option but it's food for thought. my friend
had a 180b rally car. He rebuild the bottom end totally stock( new rings and
bearings only, the pistons were still original). What he spent his money on
was the head. His theory being if you have a mad head and carbs it will go
hard even on a stock bottom end. But you can have the best bottom end in
the world and it still won't go any good if you don't have a good top half.
His engine has had the absolute guts flogged out of it since 1995 (burnout
comps,drags rallies you name it) and it still starts first time and blows no
smoke and produces great performance. If you know anyone in the
reconditioning game you could save your self enough money to do both.
