Check out the maximum amperage of the ammeter and then go to an electrical
store talk to the supplier to find a suitable cable. 12VDC @ required current.
Other than that add up all the current loads you are likely to see ~6amps (when
engine not running) for the coil, light wattage/voltage (~12V to be on the safe
side). 6-7amps for the wiper, I'd guess similar for the heater fan but I've
never checked. Couple of amps to allow for dash instruments and sensors/relays
etc around the car + current for stereo - depends mainly on amplifier output.
Biggest load by far is the lights. Assuming total light wattage of 400W@12V
current should be some where around 55-60amps being a little generous(and
everything switched on). The only ammeters for cars that I've seen have been 60
amp units so that is the cable size I would go for. That's about a 7 sq mm wire
(7 sq mm of copper - aluminium maybe less). Anyway talk to the guys at the
shop.
