I picked up a set from a series 3 bluebird for $110. I got the actuators,
buttons and the wiring from under the centre console, and the window
amplifier.

The front differs only slightly from the rear actuators and I got a bit
confused when fitting them, but correct me if I'm wrong but I had to swap
the base guide rails from the front ones top the rear ones, and drill one
hole differently in each of the front ones.

I wonder what the window amplifier does...it only controls the driver
window, and uses relays to direct the power...maybe to lengthen the life if
the switch, by not running such high current through it. I also appears to
have a timer circuit in it with an extra unused connector on the box...maybe
thats a delay so the windows can still have power after you turn the
ignition off.

I wired it up so that there is always power to the windows...what would be
the disadvantages to this? I thought maybe if they got moisture in theh
switches it would short out and the windows would go down by themselves?

I also notice that when the window is all the way up or all the way down the
motors go from about 3 amps to about 12 amps...and if you have 2 switches
down there using about 25 amps...but the main power wire to power all the
windows is only about 25amps so that must be why in the manual it has a
circuit breaker wired in...incase you hold 2 or more buttons down for too
long...I have a cutout from D.H.S. (Dick Smith) that is 5amps @ 240v which I
tested and was perfect...cutout after holding 2 or more down for too
long...you have to push the button back in though...I'll mount it next to
the light dimmer on the right hand side of the dash.

The wiring was long and boring...I ended up ripping the whole thing apart
and rewiring it so the rear window buttons could be in the doors instead of
the back of the console like the stupid bluebird...

I'm going to make a page about it on my web site...I wish I could help the
1600 owners but I havent seen what a 1600 door looks like...it's amazing the
200B's were made in 1977 and the power window units bolt straight into a
specially made section of the doorr...anyone know when power windows where
first used in cars?
