Is it using water? If the compression is high enough to require av gas and
you have only backed off the timing advance and not reduced the compression
it is likely to have popped a gasket due to pre ignition.

Subject: Misfire problems!

> Hey everyone,
> I could really use some advice regarding my datto's persistance on running
solely on 3 cylinders. For the second time in a month, it appears that
either a spark plug or lead has spat the dummy, because aside from the loss
of power, the car appears to be running smoothly enough (ie. other 3
cylinders are fine, hence leading me to believe it is an electrical
problem). If anyone would be able to provide me with some insight as to why
this might be occuring so frequently it would be greatly appreciated. The
datto runs a heavily worked L20 with twin 45 webers, and used to be tuned to
run avgas, but given availability/cost, I had the timing brought back a bit
so it now gobbles optimax. It also tends to run a bit hot for my liking, and
both times the problem has occured it seems to be directly after a 'hot'
drive (ie in traffic, hot day...). Perhaps a thermo fan is in order? Any
advice would be appreciated. Anyway, thanks in advance,
