Maybe try adjusting the timing while you crank it. It sounds
very much like what was happening with my car. It turned out the timing was
around 55 degrees which made it impossible to start. Worth a shot I suppose.

I'm no mechanic (!!) but maybe the spark plug doesnt spark while under
compression...becauuse if it's spraying fuel in there you should at least
get the 'bang' even if something is afoul. I'd try cleaning the plugs or
replacing them...let me know if this is useless information because like I
said I'm no mechanic.
