Linc,
The wiring I described does switch the thermostat on the negative side,
that's the point of using a relay. The sense wire to Pin 86 on the relay is
what controls whether the ign cuts power to the fan or not. If you want the
fan to keep running after you turn the ignition off, instead of connecting
the sense wire to the ballast resister just connect it to a battery feed and
you've got what you want.
You can wire a thermo fan without using a relay by running the fused feed
from the battery to the +ve fan motor, then run a wire from the -ve fan
motor to the mears control, then from the other terminal on the mears
control to earth. I don't like this method much as you run too much amperage
through the points on the mears control when the fan is on. To fit an
override switch inside the car with this system, you run a wire from the
mears control pin that's got the wire from the thermo motor attached through
a switch and then to earth.
regards
Terry

Subject: more thermo wiring Qu's
hey - how can i wire the relay and coil so that i can use the
thermostat or coil to switch the negative, instead of the
posetive? the way it was done on the other car, it ran
independantly from the ignition, which i also want.
