G'day Lincoln,
Positive castor is when you move the wheel forward - and this is generally
good for handling. It effectively gives you a bit of extra camber on
demand (I do say "a bit") and it helps the wheel want to self centre. Only
down side is that it can make the steering quite heavy when you wind on a
fair bit (say 5 degrees pos).
Neg castor is when you move the wheel back in the well. This is generally
worse for handling, although it makes the steering lighter.
How far can you move the wheel forwards? There's probably a guru somewhere
on the list who can give you the right amount. All I will say is this:
There are only 2 things which limit the amount of castor you can run
(within reason) - 1) how far forward the wheel can go before it hits the
front of the guard and 2) how heavy you can tolerate the steering.
Trick to installing arms when the castor/radius rods are in is to undo the
big nut on the end and loosen it right off. Fit up the arm, bolt in the
rods, then tighten the big nut on the end again.
Cheapest adjustable castor rods (although I'm not sure if they will go
straight in to a 1200 - they do in a 1600 and 180B) is LJ Torana rods. The
only mod's needed can be a minor amount of filing on the rod mount on the
rail.
Cheers
Tim

Hi, im finished attention grabbing now -
I am wondering about castor settings - castor is where u move
the front wheels back and fowards (neg or pos)???
The reason im asking is because i have 200B struts on my 1200
uterus - and i noticed that one wheel seems closer to the
footwell than the other - and now that the front end has been
lowered, it rubs badly, and the other side seems fine.
So, how far can i move the wheel fowards? how many degrees is
ok? Also, what would stop it from moving fowards? I remembered
that when i put on the lower control arm, i had trouble getting
the caster arms to meet up with it.
If i got adjustable castor rods, would they do it?
thanks, Linc
