HPC = high performance coatings. These are a coating material that is placed
on components to prevent heat absorbtion and also to lower the friction of
gases flowing over the surface. Common items for HPC coatings are pistons,
valves, extractors inners and outers. Sometimes inlet manifolds are done as
well. A lot of the japanese mandrel extractors APEXi etc are all HPC coated
inside and externally stock. The coatings can also be done in a range of
soft colours. The process is expensive.
The coating is some (organic?) material that is easily scratched if not
careful. But it helps prevent horsepower losses through heat loss.
