Just an idea Tom (if you haven't already thought of it...)

When I turboed my L20,  I was in a similar boat re cost of custom slugs....

I ended up using a piston with a shorter pin height (Pin to piston top, not
pin diameter).  This effectively gives you a bigger dish (because at TDC you
are left with a larger squish area) and doesn't affect your swept volume.

For mine I used a GroupA Skyline piston (I'll try find a part no.) they were
4mm O/S (yes thats way O/S but never split a bore).  From memory they had a
4 or 5mm shorter pin height so comp ratio was Way Down! like 6.5 or 7:1 but
this wasn't a problem with 25psi boost.
