Damien,
The Yanks refer to the 510 as a "5 and Dime" Dime =
10 cents so they get the 10 in 510 with the word
dime... or "A Dime" for short.
They were just as facinated by us using the word
"Datto" so I guess it is confusing on both sides of
the Pacific Ocean.
