I've only ever done this many years ago with a Soobie R160LS diff out of a
Brumby (it's a 4WD ute) but it had unis and not CV's. Pete Liebig who is
sometimes on this list has done it on a 510 with the R180 Viscous LS from a
Japanese Soobie. The article that Kurt Hafer has on his website might give
some clues but I think this is all about R160LS as it's very topical for the
Brumby conversion.

Pete had rear axles made up by an engineer, it wasn't that easy but the
finished product is nice.

Ozdatters,
I just managed to get a viscous LSD from a '98 Impreza WRX today but
unfortunately couldn't get the shafts as the JY had already sold them. I am
going to get some shafts soon as I can as I would like to change to CV's on
the rear and have access to plenty of machining equipment to do the job (I
have a friend who's an engineer in the airforce) What's involved other than
the need for shorter shafts? I figure I will likely have to make new flanges
to mount the outer CV to the stub axle or substantially modify the existing
UJ ones. Are there any other shafts I can use other than the WRX ones like
Legacy or Forrester? Looking at the design of the diff the inner shafts are
held by snap rings. Also looking through the diff you have the intenally
splined parts that the shafts go into (the bit with the snap ring) and also
a third internally splined part in the center which has a slightly smaller
internal diameter. How does this all work? I have no idea how the shafts fit
into this assembly as I have yet to see some. what does the third central
splined bit drive on?? Has anybody worked on one of these diffs or converted
to CV's?
This is the only type of LSD I can get here so I have to use it one way or
another. I have looked at dozens of older Subarus and never found an LSD
yet. The only model to have one as standard was the XT-Turbo and I have only
ever seen two of those. This WRX one was a really good find for me and not
too expensive
