Brad,
Bummer mate I've had that happen.. its unpleasant when a big drive dies,
I've invested in a tape drive since.
I haven't contacted Precision, I was hoping to avoid spending big money on
pistons by finding a cast piston of that pin height, wristpin diameter, dish
volume and bore from an OEM, but it seems that because I have a hankering to
try something different I'm going to pay for it! Forged pistons sound like
the best overall for a high boosting engine. I am aiming for 200hp atw from
a 2.2 litre turbo, I think around 10 psi is going to be required so perhaps
forged pistons are a good idea.
Errol, thankyou for the information I think I probably will go with forged
pistons now. Give me a buzz if you come across another set of those 29mm
Arias Cosworth pistons please!
Thanks again guys
- Tom

Tom
Found out when your hard drive AND mother board die simultaneously you lose
all your files :(
Unfortunately we are iut of luck. Did you contact Precision?

Brad,
Was just wondering if you ended up finding something?

Thanks for the replies Brad, Daniel, Mark
The reason I'm asking about forged pistons is not because I am keen to blow
$1400+ or think I'm going to be running 25psi of boost on the street, it's
because if I were to pursue a Z22 stroker with the long Z20E rods (to
reclaim some revs) there is no piston available which produces the right
compression ratio with the NAPS/Z cylinder head (or even one which produces
a realistic N/A compression ratio). I need something with a 28mm height and
15cc dish. What other options are there besides custom forged pistons? Does
anybody know of an OEM cast piston with a 28mm height and 15cc dish? 2187cc
turbo would have been sweet but I'll stick with a set of 31.6mm ACL cast
pistons with chromoly rings for $215 and 1998cc if the only other choice is
exy custom pistons.
Thanks again guys
- Tom

Precision do 'em (http://apep.alphalink.com.au/), excellent piston at the
right price. I would order them through Datrats though to ensure you get
the best $$$.
Many people disagree with forged pistons, and it basically falls back onto
what you expect from your motor. If you want twin turbos but only around
the street at low to mid psi then maybe you will survive with cast slugs.
If you want a reliable 6500rpm-9500rpm high comp performer then go to the
expense of forgies. Don't spend a mint on an engine and have a piston self
destruct at the worst moment.

hi, i got a price on +1mm forged pistons for a l20b motor , and th e guy
quoted me $1400, yeah right, the guy seemed a wanker, saying that forged
pistons are the only way to go, ESPECIALLY for a turbo.
i spoke to a guy in queensland who ONLY DOES TURBO STUFF and when i asked
him about using forged pistons, he said f**K that, he has never used forged
pistons, and at the moment he said he was doing a v8 ford with twin turbos
using CAST pistons.....
my setup is : z2.4 crank, l20b block,z24 head,microtech digi 1,to3 turbo,
and programmable ignition and CAST pistons ,which i am definately using.
he said the that u have to be very carefull about leaning out the fuel mix,
(as with any car) if its too lean it will damage the pisons , and a
forged set will last about 7 seconds longer than cast if the motor is
leaned out.
