Your steering box was an early design.
The later steering with uni joints is designed to collapse on impact without
risking spearing the driver if the box is pushed backward. This was to
conform with Aust. design rules. Japanese built 510 imports never got this
safety mod, my '71 510SSS has got the same design as yours.
Not one of the Japanese model's better features.
