Daniel,
Becoming a torque junkie huh? The fastest
(and probably best) way to a LZ24 would be to slap the whole Z24 from a Navara
into your car. The block is 20mm taller than an L20b which means you will
have clearance issues, so you will probably need to make custom engine mounts
and modify the sump. The cylinder head is the same as your Z18 head so
either put the whole Z18 head on or just the inlet and exhaust manifolds on as
you see fit. Download the Microsoft Excel engine calculator from my site
and check the specs on Jason Gray's homepage out, you'll need to make sure you
have a turbo-friendly compression ratio. As for the rest the same theorey
applies from Z18's. Note that you'll get tons of torque and quite a
lot of power but much lower in the rev range. I don't know about
Queensland but in NSW I believe capacity limits are: 2380cc for turbo/super
or 2856 n/a so the 2389cc Z24 might be pushing it!
Advantages:
Retain long Z24 rods for better
revability
Much easier than clearancing a Z24 crank for use in
an L20b block since you would want to use a NAPS/Z head anyway (no need to hunt
down Z20 timing cover)
Disadvantages:
M3 (Z24) block rumoured to be slightly weaker than
the M1 (L16, L18) and M2 (L20b, Z20, Z22) blocks
Minor work to engine mounts and sump to fit the
thing into a 510
Slightly heavier again than the original
block
Stock carburetted Z24 ex 720 utility:
77kw @ 4800 rpm
181Nm @ 2800 rpm
Hope this helps.
- Tom
PS Errol, I want a commision if Daniel buys your
Z24 :)
