James,
The rule of thumb with shaving L series heads is if you can still see all of
the "NISSAN" stamp written on the front driver's side it's OK, some late
model heads (A87) have a horizontal line between #2 & #3 that's a visual
indicator. I doubt that the head has had more off one end than the other as
that would cause things not to work that well. The only way to check that
accurately that comes to mind is to measure when you have the head off the
engine.
Running hot without boiling will actually improve performance believe it or
not - most race engines operate as close to 200F as possible. Do the usual
reverse flushing stuff, check the thermostat, radiator cap etc and fit a
return cap and bottle with correct proportion of coolant to suite your
climate. Also open the heater tap and reverse flush the heater as well, it's
amazing how much crap gets in there over summer. Stick a hose up the long
heater pipe that connects to the fitting nearest the water pump and blow out
the "S" pipe.
regards
Terry

Subject: Head Problems
Hey Guys, bit of problem here, i recently noticed that my head has been
shaved ALOT. After looking at the head again it seems to be shaved more at
the back of the engine then the front, is this done on purpose or is this
head fucked?
also it seems my car is running a little warmer than it used to, not runnin
hot but enuff to take a little performance away, could this be due to a
shitty radiator? or sumthin else?
Cheers Fellas
James
