Nat,

You didn't miss out on much. I told Mike to go out and take it easy, no revs
over 5000rpm only 90% throttle and no heavy down changes, we were worried
about being pinged as they have a 75dbl sound limit at sandown. I had also
just put on a new head and wanted to make sure everything was OK before
running it hard. The car did one lap and was sounding nice and all seamed
ok. Until on a gentle change down to second, no over rev, at the corner
before the back straight the engine went tinkle tinkle and the car stopped.

After the car was towed into the pits I pulled the rocker cover off to find
six lash pads were dislodged. After same time I noticed that the chain was
not in it right position at TDC on the cam sprocket and when I tried to
reinstall the rocker arms they were at an angle as I had to wind the
adjusters right up. At this point I turned the engine over to TDC and
noticed that the cam was not in its correct orientation. I also noticed that
the top of the valves were lower that normal. At this point I went looking
for something else to drive. Bring on the Nissan micra!

I pulled the head off last week to find all the valves bent, some of the
guides were broken and the cam had some minor damage (currently at Wade
being fixed). The chain was quite loose on the tensioner side and I thought
the chain tensioner had popped out (it didn't). The dowel on the cam had
worked its way out and explains why I bent all the valves.

So anyway the head is getting some more port work at the moment and will be
sent to a local machine shop for new valves, valve seats and work on the
guides.

See ya
Trev

Nat,
My apologies. I rang Trevor last night and they were running on Sunday as
well as Saturday. I didnt know it was a two day event. Trev is on a course
this week so cant get his e-mail, so I can give you a precis of what
happened.
His brother had an over-rev on a down change on the first run on Sunday I
believe and flipped out a heap of lash pads with resulting valves touching
pistons. The engine will be pulled down during the week and
investigated/repaired for the next round in 4 weeks
Cheers
Feral Errol
